The Assignment:
Every few weeks, you will have the chance to be a sports columnist, expressing your views on a current topic in the world of sports. You make take ideas from our daily “Rundown” discussions, or anything else that you may find relevant that we have not discussed in class.
While these columns are obviously opinion pieces, try to avoid the use of personal pronouns as much as possible – you want to sound authoritative, while at the same time, expressing your personal thoughts on the issue at hand. Note some of the examples we will look at in class, and see how professional writers are able to accomplish this effectively.
Expectations:
*Length: between 500-1000 words
*MLA format
*Grading: Each column is worth 50 points, see reverse side for rubric
*Submission: shared with me via Google Docs
*Due Dates:
September 22
October 20
November 17
January 10
*You may write one “bonus” column each quarter for extra credit – will replace
your lowest score.
